We have this game you might have heard of. It's called New York Times Crosswords. It's, like, the only mobile crossword application that's officially licensed by the New York Times. I. Know. So, anyway. It needs someone to take up the reins and lead the team. You know, lead it into the future of mobile app development and stuff.

- Summary -

  • Organize, direct and lead the design, production and life of the New York Times Crosswords mobile product. Coordinate all efforts around the New York Times Crosswords mobile product including investigating and interfacing with development partners; working on marketing strategies and execution; coordinating design and development efforts; and creating and tracking budgets and revenue. Gather and prioritize product and customer requirements, help define the product vision, ensure the product's market success and engage with the New York Times Crosswords community.

- Primary Responsibilities -

  • Work with the Executive Producer to define the product strategy and roadmap
  • Manage the schedule for resources allocated to the project
  • Organize marketing and product requirements with prioritized features and corresponding justification
  • Propose and manage an overall budget to ensure success, and track adherence to the budget
  • Work with external partners to facilitate the development and maintenance of the product
  • Evolve the product design to maintain market leadership
  • Be an expert with respect to the competition
  • Act as a leader within the company

- Knowledge and Skill Requirements -

  • Experience interfacing with or managing a development team
  • Marketing training or experience
  • Experience using mobile entertainment products (ideally games)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong English communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to take initiative and act independently
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Experience developing and producing games

Senior IT Director

- Summary -

  • Magmic is hiring a senior IT director to help innovate our environment to the next curve. You bring a number of years experience in reliable systems management as well as extensive experience with corporate tools and process implementation.

- Primary Responsibilities -

  • Plan internal IT direction with the CTO
  • Manage corporate environment (primarily Windows, Apple and Linux)
  • Maintain all aspects of the corporate infrastructure (servers, network, backups, processes)
  • Maintain all aspects of external infrastructure (cloud and co-located servers)
  • Manage corporate reliability, risk and security objectives
  • Resource optimization and monitoring
  • Interact and gather project requirements from other departments
  • Create and implement project plans as required
  • Provide guidance in future direction of all aspects of the IT infrastructure
  • Test, recommend and implement new solutions

- Knowledge and Skill Requirements -

  • Knowledge of security plans and IT best practices
  • Ability to take initiative and act independently
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Software development and tools deployment (i.e. for Salesforce.com or other system)
  • Strong database and CRM background
  • Strong technical and mobile handset background
  • Familiarity with mobile solutions such as Rove Mobile
  • Experience with hosting solutions such as Amazon cloud and Rackspace
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong English communication skills (written and oral)

A new (and kind of huge) career opportunity from Magmic

With the release of the BlackBerry PlayBook near at hand, we're looking for the best minds in game engineering to lead Magmic into the marketplace. Not only would you be joining a great team of people, but you'd be a part of something brand new. In other words, you'd be kind of a big deal.

 

We're looking for a Flex/Air Game Developer. Here's a brief run-down on this position:

- Primary Responsibilities - 

  • Adapting existing and new games to the Air platform.
  • Integrating innovative use of the Air environment and platform (e.g. RIM PlayBook).
  • Ensuring timely delivery of titles to channel partners.
  • Actively participating in team and design / production meetings.
  • Depending on the candidate, potentially growing and leading the team.

- Knowledge and Skill Requirements -

  • 1-3 years working in a development position
  • Flash Pro developer in AS 3
  • Experience with Adobe Air an asset
  • Experience in Game Development as asset
  • Must be a team player and be enthusiastic to learn.
  • iPhone / iPad development knowledge an asset
  • A passion for working in the game industry

We're currently looking for a Mobile Platform Developer.

 

- About the position - 

You will be working as part of the Engineering Team, porting games to new J2ME, Android, and Blackberry devices, as well as releasing new games to carrier partners. The individual will work directly with other Engineering members and will report to the Portfolio Project Manager. This position is a one year contract.

 

- Responsibilities - 

  • Adapting Games to different platforms and mobile devices.
  • Working on Existing games to maintain a high standard of quality.
  • Optimizing code for memory use and application size.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of titles to carrier partners.
  • Actively participating in team meetings.

 

- Knowledge and Skill Requirements -

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years working in a development position, preferably in Mobile Development.
  • Strong knowledge of OO design and principles.
  • Strong experience with Java.
  • Must be a team player and be enthusiastic to learn.
  • Blackberry/J2ME/Android knowledge an asset.
  • A passion for games
